UNIZIK Documentary: The Impeached/Suspended SUG President - Nobel Eyisi [Full Story]

On Tuesday 12th May 2015, a letter surfaced online which brought in a lot of tension in Nnamdi Azikiwe University as the open letter to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku was written and circulated by the SUG president, Comrade Noble Eyisi. see more photos below........

In the letter, he queried and questioned the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ahaneku alleging anomalies and corruption in the university system especially regarding students.

The same letter which caused a stir on campus and worse on social media as posts and comments were all over the place, and it attracted the attention of Vanguard Newspapers, SaharaReporters, Pulseng, Lailasblog etc.

In the letter above, Comrade Eyisi asks the Vice-Chancellor to explain what the university did with the total sum of N45,000, 000 generated from the 6000 students admitted in the 2014/2015 academic session through the ‘Biometric Capturing Fees that forces each of the new students to pay N7, 500 each.

He also asked the Vice-Chancellor to explain the status of students’ account sustained annually through union fees that are captured in the school fees. He said that despite the fact that the account belongs to students, the Union does not have access to it. He also wondered why the university authorities frustrated the efforts of the union to compel the food vendors within the university to reduce cost of their charges to N150 per plate since a bag of rice has since been reduced to N8000.

He reminded the Vice-Chancellor that the university is a public institution and urged him to always execute policies in a transparent manner in line with the spirit of change that is currently trending in the country as the incoming administration of Nigeria’s president-elect Muhammadu Buhari has vowed not to tolerate any atom of corruption in the country.
More Allegations
However, on Wednesday May 13 2015 Comrade Eyisi alleged further harassment on him and his staff by the university authorities. He made the allegation through a post on his Facebook timeline.

According to him, he was called upon in the “wee hours” of Tuesday night by the Vice-Chancellor and his people to sign a document but he refused to append his signature and declared that he is waiting for the worst to happen.

He alleged that the letter was released in the morning of Tuesday 12th May 2015 to all Unizik Students as it was Copied to them originally, but then an order from above was given to raid all class rooms and seize the document from public knowledge. He futher alleged that the SUG President’s Rooms were raided and turned up side down and the SUG Bus was impounded and ransacked.

The President stated that the Privacy and Security of Unizik SUG President had been breached and that an order for the arrest of some key SUG Officials has been given. According to him, around 9pm on Tuesday 12th May 2015, the President’s aides were ambushed intimidated/bullied by the men of the Anti Cult and their phones were seized.

Comrade Eyisi declared that students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka are definitely worth the struggle and promised not abandon them or sell them out.
With these allegations all over the place lots of students, ex-students and concerned persons took to their social media (basically Facebook) to air their opinions and views on the saga.

Some persons say they saw the spirit of Aluta in the union president who they say was fighting a battle for the union and for the students as he was trying to expose corruption, while others were of the opinion that the union leader used a wrong approach to fight what might be a good battle and was out of his mind for daring to make such move against a respected personality as two comrades wrote articles and clearly said “He whom the gods want to destroy, they will first make him go mad”.
Take Away the Speck in Your Eyes First
While this saga was going on, and while everyone awaited a response from the university regarding these allegations, the union executives were on an opposing side as they clearly dissociated themselves from the President and his ‘fight’ and some persons were of the opinion that he put his house in order first before anything else.

In a post made on Facebook by the SUG PRO - Martin Bech Nworah, publishing the letter written by the executives (except the president) to the university management, they clearly stated that were not part of it, adding that the President never works with them , alleging that the President has external forces driving his actions.

Meantime, the executives had much earlier passed a vote of no confidence on the President, for side-lining them and choosing to work with his executives; hence an impeachment motion against him was already cooking.

The University Reacts
The School authority finally commented on the matter through a letter from the office of the School's Public Relations officer
Here's a Screen-cap image

After the university had reacted, opinions expressed especially on social media showed that Comrade Eyisi had made a mistake of sidelining his executives, and worse still carrying out an action of such huge magnitude without due consultation and working alone as his executives had said he was not representing the view of the entire union.

He was advised to put his house in order, and choose more respectful and peaceful means of finding answers to his questions.

Comrade Eyisi Gets Summoned by SRC, and Gets Suspended
On 19th May 2015, the Students’ Representative Council of the union summoned the President over various allegations against him.

At the end of the sitting, the President was suspended indefinitely form office, for negligence of summon and other offences.

Rustication

On June 10th 2015, the authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Thursday, suspended the impeached SUG President, Noble Eyisi indefinitely from all university’s activities.

According to the university, Mr. Eyisi at about 2:30 pm on 3rd June, 2015 rallied some strange faces and some students at the university’s multipurpose hall and distributed placards to them in an attempt to probably engage them in acts designed to disrupt peace in the university. The university further stated that the fact that he abandoned his Nissan Primera saloon car with registration number AA 857 AZ at the frontage of the Multipurpose hall of the university and ran away on sighting the security patrol vehicle lends credence to the suspicion that he was engaging in a conduct inimical, destructive and unlawful to the interest and welfare of the university.

Consequently, the Vice Chancellor pursuant to section 19 of Nnamdi Azikiwe University act CAP N 139 LFN 2004 suspended him indefinitely for misconduct pending the outcome of Students’ Disciplinary Committee to which the case is referred. The university further stated that the suspension is with immediate effect and ordered him to keep away from all university activities during the period of suspension.

Noble Eyisi appealed to many agencies to intervene in his predicament but the efforts showed little effect. Recent developments show that the tales of the boy who stood against the school administration - NOBLE EYISI may soon be forgotten by the students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
