Many Shiite Muslim members marched around Kofar Mata Kano protesting the continued detention of their leader, El-Zakzaky by the Federal Government.
The Federal Government may be fanning th embers of trouble with the
continued detention of the leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria,
popularly known as Shiites, as hundreds of their members marched in
protest in Kano on Monday demanding for the immediate release of their
leader held in custody.
The marchers comprised men, young children and women holding
different placards with various inscriptions calling for the immediate
release of Shiek Zakzaky.
The leader of the protesters, Mallam Sani Malfa who addressed the
crowds at Kofar Mata after three hours of protesting asked the
government to immediately release their leader and others held in
custody and away from family members since last week.
"We demand immediate release of Shiek Zakzaky,” he said. “And we
want him to be released for him to be treated by doctors of his choice
over the injuries he sustained."
He said the Islamic Movement also wanted the immediate and
unconditional release of the bodies of those that were killed, as well
as those who are in detention.
“Members of the Shiites are also calling the authority to allow us
to see Shiek Zakzaky for us to know his condition eye to eye," he
declared.
