Governor
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has described the late Mrs. Caroline
Chinweolu Onoh, wife of the former governor of old Anambra State, late
Chief Christian Chukwuma, as a virtuous woman of exemplary character who
inspired many with her selflessness, humility, simplicity and
sincerity.
Gov. Ugwuanyi spoke at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, during the Requiem Mass for the late Mrs. Onoh which was attended by an array of dignitaries comprising the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie
Obiano and his wife, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Governor of Ebonyi State who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bernard Ugwu, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Barr. Geoffrey Onyeama, and wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi.
Others include former governors of Anambra and Ebonyi states, Mr. Peter Obi and Chief Martin Elechi, Archbishop of Enugu Province (Anglican Communion), Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, the Catholic Bishop of
Enugu Diocese, and Dr. Callistus Onaga, who was the Chief Celebrant, among others.
The Enugu Governor noted that the late Mrs. Onoh was also a devout Christian, community leader and dedicated mother who rendered great service and made exceptional contributions to the development of the
society.
While offering the condolences of the Government and people of Enugu State, the entire South-East region and the nation at large, Gov. Ugwuanyi urged members of Onoh’s family, friends and well-wishers to
take solace in the “worthy legacies and examples that she left behind”.
He equally thanked the bishops and other members of the clergy, other governors of the South-East, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers, Igbo leaders, and eminent personalities from different parts of the country and all those that participated and contributed towards the success of the funeral mass.
In his sermon, a visiting priest and principal of College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu, Rev. Fr. Nnamdi Nwankwo, said the deceased embodied many Christian virtues which made her worthy of
sainthood. He urged the Catholic bishop to consider initiating the process of canonization as a fitting tribute for her “exemplary live”.
